Critical Reception

The film received mixed reviews from critics who praised the performances of the lead actors but criticized the weak script, direction and editing. The film was also compared unfavorably with the original Malayalam film which was considered to be more engaging and entertaining.

Some of the positive reviews are:

"Chaalis Chauraasi is an enjoyable ride that keeps you hooked till the end." - Taran Adarsh, Bollywood Hungama

"The film works because of its witty dialogues, quirky characters and situational comedy." - Nikhat Kazmi, The Times of India

Some of the negative reviews are:

"Chaalis Chauraasi is a half-baked attempt at making a comedy thriller that neither thrills nor tickles." - Rajeev Masand, CNN-IBN

"The film suffers from a lack of coherence, logic and finesse." - Shubhra Gupta, The Indian Express

Chaalis Chauraasi is a film that tries to be a comedy thriller but fails to deliver on both fronts. The film has a talented cast of actors who do their best to make the film watchable but are let down by a weak script and direction. The film is a remake of a much better Malayalam film that had more humour, suspense and drama. The film is not a complete waste of time but it is not something that you would want to watch again.
